A local model from modelmayhem came over last week, it was her first photoshoot with someone else as far as I can gather. I think in some of the pictures she has a shocking innocence to her that I didn’t pick up in person. She is a fun person to work with, and I look forward to working with her again.
Brittany is a sweet girl that I took photos of a couple weeks ago. She was challenge for me because she isn’t goth, she isn’t fetish, she is a normal nice girl. I need more challenges in my life like this, I think it was a good experience for me to work with her and I look forward to working with her again.
Infact, we already have some ideas lined up for the next photosession, which hopefully will be happening in January. They will be sexy, as if she needs to be any sexier.
Farril came by, we took some pictures of her. I’m kind of impressed with the pictures. Some of them have a fashion kind of feel to them, and she exuded a sexiness without showing any skin. This is her librarian kind of look. I’ve photographed her before, nearly a year ago, and the photos didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped. So I’m also glad that both of our skills have developed.
Sylver came over to do content sets for various websites that she is on and for applications to some others. Four sets later we were pretty wiped out so I took a couple portfolio shots for myself. The plan is she will come back soon and we will do more stuff.
In the meantime she has told me at least one of the sets has been accepted and will appear on BrokenDollz.com shortly.
A model from Missouri, Nos13 came by to see me while she was in Detroit to do some work for SuperBitch Magazine. Anyways we took some pictures, I think they are great. She is a wonderful model to work with.
There is something about my hallway to my apartment that is scary at night. It’s also very lonely looking.
I don’t know how I feel about this photo. It has lots of character and nice colorings to it and plenty of leading lines. But it definately breaks the rule of 1/3’s and I swear it isn’t quite level.
I think I’m in love with my hallway. All the leading lines, the crappy lighting. I wish they hadn’t re-carpeted in the hallway. Makes it look less spooky and more like a cheap motel.
Anyways, Lauren looks wonderful in my hallway. I could see her on a fashion page in something like Clear Magazine
Additionally, these pictures I like because she looks lonely all by herself in the long crappy hallway. I like my lonely pictures.
Kat asked specifically for silhouettes which is awesome I like it when people have a preconceived vision in their head what they want to do. It feels more natural.
I think though in some of the images her eyes really came out nicely. She also looks like a movie star from the 50’s in them… if I could get the lighting correct. Damn lighting always gets in my way.
Lauren came by, she whipped out the dinosaur and I thought I had just let a crazy person in my home. But the pictures turned out way cute I think. Yes, I used the word cute and way before it. Looking at the pictures actually makes me LOL.
Anyways, she was great to work with.
Go visit her at her website: nakedbarbies.net
There will be plenty more of her pictures coming in the next couple days.
Wow. I was going through my old posts and I came across this one that I totally forgot to post.
Joe Jackson of course is in the mix. I swear he is more of a camera whore than anyone gives him credit for. Anytime the someone comes over he is digging in the bags; scurrying around on the ground looking for away to get into the pictures; and trying to be all cute so some girl will pick him up.
Anyways, these are some great pictures of Roxi. With some luck I will be working with her again soon for some Bettie Page type pictures and some other promotional material she needs.
Katie and I went out to Jackson Park tonight and we did some test pictures in the pond. I think they turned out great. I hope there isn’t nothing too gross in the pond as I was wadding around in it knee deep. That’s the closest to swimming I’ve been in many years, not that I actually can swim.
Anyways, Katie looks great by the pool of water.
Roxi D’Lite and I did some more pictures. These are the only ones I’ve posted so far but we did some on a train; in a window; on a chair; by a vanity and in a bed. I think I’m starting to enjoy doing location shooting. It certainly brings up interesting challenges, and provides more interesting scenery.
One thing that I like about these pictures and the ones from set one is how the fabric from the canopy bed, and the light on the wall re-enforces or mirrors her shape. Perhaps I’m over thinking it but some how in my twisted little mind it loosely provides a pattern. Patterns apparently are good in real photography…
Maybe one day I’ll be able to call myself a photographer and not cringe. Wouldn’t that be something?
It isn’t very often that I get to work with a male. When I do it is usually in conjunction with a female and I just never quite know how to pose them. As a result I often try to make the male a part of the scenery, or whatever. So Jonathon was a unique challenge for me, luckily he has some experience posing.
I think some of these turned out really well.
I had just woken up at the crack of noon and I got a phone call from Kayla that she had just got her makeup done and was getting her hair done and she was wondering if I would like to take pictures of it. Of course why not!
One of the thing that I like about working with Kayla is that when she arrives and she sees a pink plastic cup sitting on the end of the flash she doesn’t sass me with “Hey, ding-a-ling, that’s not the place to put your dirty dishes”. Instead, she is more likely to ask “what’s that gonna do?”
Warning: These are disturbing images and they are meant to be that way… don’t forget that.
I’ve had this idea nearly all summer, and I was glad when I found Cassandra to do the first in this series. When I say I found Cassandra, what I really mean is: I whined to Jenn and she talked to Cassie about it. Jenn knows everyone.
Originally, I was going to do these without the aid of a make up artist. However, the amazing and talented Cerah Steele came over, put on a clinic, and made the photos 100x better.
We did these pictures after the bondage ones so Cassandra was less nervous and had realized the key element: this is all just fun. The pictures look quite serious, but for the most part we were laughing the entire time doing these.
PS – if you have to ask if it was real heroin, or if she really stuck herself, or if she really looks that way… seriously now…
Immy came back for more photos, this time she wanted something more mature looking, with more of edge for a lack of a better term. She needed the photos for a portfolio to show off in Detroit at the end of the month.
Although she and I sometimes disagree about what is good or not I think we got some great pictures. She thinks that she is being a pain when she say she doesn’t like one image or another, but really I would rather have someone really picky then not… it makes it easier in someways.
I think this is my favourite set of the six with Jenni. She changed in the back alley into a hospital gown, whipped out a animal hypodermic, practically mooned a car load of people (I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall after that).
I enjoy the shadow play in these photos, and the crazy poses that she would do.
After we had finished the bondage set I figured she and I were done for the day. Turns out she had one more idea that she wanted to do ‘something in the bathtub’. At first I was stunned, I didn’t really know what we were going to do, how we could make it look interesting. But after digging around in my boxes we came up with plan… obviously.
These were lit with a snooted Vivitar 283. on a stand.
Coming in from all the way down the block comes Cerah Steele. She is a local hair dresser and she got her hair and make up done for this.
From what I know of hair dressing there seems to be a lot of drinking and smoking involved. This photo-session was no exception; both smokes and drinks were consumed—I am easily bribed :)
Jon recently got signed to a new agency and they required him to update his look with a more professional, sharp, and standard photos; Less story, more model.
These are the results and I think these compare quite nicely to the photo samples he showed me. Well, except for the hanging by the tie one, that was just goofing around.
I’ve toyed with the idea of doing testing for agencies. I mean I know I could do it quality wise, I just don’t know any agencies to do the testing for. That and I’m notoriously self-deprecating so in my mind these photo, despite comparing to the samples Jon gave me, still aren’t up to snuff. But they are getting there.
I’ve had people tell me I could go to a bunch of agencies with my work they would just like it. Unfortunately, it just isn’t so, usually my photos are too harshly lit, full of contrast and unusual colours and textures (nevermind about the themes alone). They lay somewhere between editorials and art. Agencies don’t want that, they want to see what the model looks like, not what I can do with photoshop.
Anyways, these are the types of photos that agencies want to see for testing. This or Polaroids.
Know any agencies that want testing photographers from this area? sigh
PS – to the people that question WHY I do photos in the first place (ie “what is the point?”), these are the point. Or part of it.
